Southampton sit just above the drop zone after suffering their third loss of the season on Saturday at Everton.
Shoddy marking allowed Leon Osman and Nikica Jelavic to head home two of the clinical goals in the 3-1 defeat at Goodison Park.
Saints have the worst defensive record in the top-flight having conceded 18 goals in their first six matches and Yoshida has demanded an improvement.
"We need some improvements, especially defensively from crossing," the 24-year-old Japanese defender said.
"We made too many mistakes - it was too easy to lose the ball in midfield so we have to change this. We lost too quickly and too easily against Everton, I think."
