Schneiderlin eyes improvements

Morgan Schneiderlin: Hoping to improve under new boss

The Argentinean's appointment at St Mary's came under a cloud as fans' favourite Nigel Adkins was sacked by chairman Nicola Cortese despite guiding Southampton from League One to 15th in the Barclays Premier League.

Pochettino's first game in charge ended in a goalless draw against Everton last night in a match that Southampton dominated for large periods.

Schneiderlin, 23, admits former Espanyol boss Pochettino has not yet had time to put his stamp on the squad but is hopeful his South American flair will improve his own game.

"When a new manager comes in he has some new ideas but we have just spent two days with him," said Schneiderlin.

"He said that he did not want to change too much in two days. He said that he did not want to change the way we play straight away."

When asked if Pochettino could make him a better player Schneiderlin replied: "Of course. He has a lot of new ideas. He worked in Spain and we know that league s more technical and tactical.

"We can see already that he wants us to play a high tempo game with a lot of pressure and that is good because we are all very fit and we can do what he wants."

Despite a good performance against Everton, the Saints will be looking to convert more of their chances as they face tough fixtures against the Premier League's top two, Manchester United and reigning champions Manchester City, over the course of the next two weeks.

Schneiderlin knows would have suited Southampton but the former France Under-21 international is confident the team can pick up points against both of the Manchester clubs.

"We are confident we can do something against Manchester United and Manchester City, and three points would have been nice, but it is like that," he said.

"It is done now, but I am sure we can upset any team in this league."
